Apartment Suite "Piazzetta del Pozzo delle Catene"
The Shaft of Chains Square is one of the most beautiful and suggestive corners of the city.
In the ancient center of the town, it is so called for the presence of a shaft that allowed the supply of water to the citizens.
Some legends tell that there used to be a small port where the boats that arrived in Pieve from Ferrara or Bologna, going along the canals and the surrounding marshes, arrived.
In the small square, there is a marble column surmounted by a Corinthian marble capital.
The original capital dates back to the eleventh and seventeenth century and can be found in the Picture Gallery.
There are buildings around the column ranging from the poorest and simplest to the most elegant, of different age and beauty.
The most characteristic is the house with wooden columns, a valuable example of intact medieval residential architecture with a wooden porch that reminds, to a reduced extent, that of Corte Isolani in Bologna. Known as Casa degli anziani (1272), it was an ancient inn and shelter for pilgrims and horse post.
