Apartment Suite "Via Roma"

The ancient Via Roma, now called Matteotti, connected the Rocca with the center of the town. At the entrance of the street, we find the church of SS. Rocco and Sebastiano, a simple building, erected in gratitude for the plague's escaped danger that hit the nearby Cento.
Built in 1628 on the ruins of a pre-existing building dating back to 1440, it has a beautiful bell tower with two bells from 1688.
The simple facade with three arches recalls the surrounding porticoes.
In the past, the church was the seat of two religious companies, that of San Rocco and that of Pio Suffragio. In the first part of the eighteenth century, during the works in the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maggiore, all the sacred functions were performed here. Here, also the miraculous wooden crucifix found temporary hospitality. The Company was suppressed in 1798 following the Napoleonic laws, but the church survived the storm and was reopened for worship. Over time the church was mainly dedicated to the dead cult, as evidenced by the tombstones that commemorate the fallen soldiers in the First World War.
Unfortunately, the building is currently condemned due to the 2012 earthquake.
